2010 was an interesting year for me and well… my whole family. It started out like any other – by setting out some New Year’s Goals. I wanted to run the Mississauga Half Marathon, yanno because 2010 was going to be our first year without a baby in the house… LOL – oh man was I in for a surprise!
So I trained, and had some great mileage weeks. Then, late February I got injured, and running began getting hard – each run felt like I was running uphill the whole time. I thought I was sick, hubby suggested I take a pregnancy test… Lo and behold we discovered that we were expecting our third child!!
I continued to train, still planning on doing the half-marathon (in hindsight I should have skipped the speed work and hill training). I ran a personal best 5K in April, in which I even placed in my age group, but unfortunately that great run was the straw that broke the camel’s back regarding my ongoing battle with plantar fasciitis – this may have been exacerbated by the pregnancy hormones. My feet were so sore that I couldn’t run for 2 months while I did physio and had custom orthotics made. By June I was back running again, and I was able to continue to run until the end of August (30 weeks pregnant). After that I set a new goal of running or walking 500km over the course of my pregnancy.
Over September and October I continued to walk, and I accomplished my 500km goal!! (Though I was so wrapped up in the discomfort of pregnancy that I forgot to post about it). In late October I lost long-time running partner due to old age and a stroke (RIP dear Molly dog), but less than two weeks later I gained a new partner… Baby Amber!
After baby Amber was born I spent 7 weeks recovering, getting used to being a family of five, and rushing around to get all of the holiday shopping and preparations done.
And now, here it is the eve of 2011 and I’m back! I’m running, feeling great and ready to take the new year with some great new goals!
