Guess what? As I mentioned earlier this week, I took a week of vacation from work. During the summer. And not because someone was sick. I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve built up enough vacation time to do this since becoming a mother over 8 years ago! Last year I took 3 days off with a weekend in the middle to go to Boston with the hubby, but this was the first time I’ve been able to stay home with the girls for a week during the summer (excluding maternity leave).
And we had fun!!
Lots and lots of fun!
We started off our week together by going to the new Premium Outlet mall and bought a ton of back to school stuff. We got there EARLY as in WAY TOO EARLY, so I kicked back with a coffee on a Muskoka chair, while the girls played:
While shopping I saw an awesome new COACH purse (man I love Coach) and a kick butt pair of cowboy boots that I think would have gone really well together:
I’m kicking myself for not buying either one of them (though my wallet would be hurting for a year if I had).
Later that day we went to our Optometrist to have our eyes tested for school. We try to do this every year. We learned something interesting about my eyes – my near-sightedness has improved to the point where I am no longer required to wear glasses while driving!! WOW! I had no idea that was possible, but apparently it is.
The next day, the girls and I hung out with our friends. We went for a run around the neighbourhood, went to the park, and had a picnic at the pool:
On Wednesday, the girls and I did some more back-to-school shopping and picked up some great deals on summer stuff at Target Canada, including new bathing suits. We then relaxed for part of the day around the pool:
Later that day, I took my rock stars to have pedicures and to visit the Dentist:
(What a ham!)
On Thursday we went to Emerald Lake with three other families for a picnic and had an absolute blast! The girls pretended they were in an episode of Wipe Out:
Went down the water slide, played in the splash pad, went paddle boating, played at the park and just plain old had fun:
I was then peer pressured into cliff jumping (my daughter chanting “go mommy go”):
(Not me, but I did jump twice)
Because I was missing my group open water swim, I decided to swim across the lake and back while the group relaxed.
Then yesterday, my last day of vacation, I took my two best friends out for a nice lunch out on a grown up patio:
My mom called us just as we were sitting down to tell us she was shopping in my neck of the woods, so we invited her to join us. The girls really enjoyed her visit because their sour moods, changed as soon as she arrived. Later that day I went back to the outlet mall to browse child-free! Hubby was working from home, so the girls decided they’d rather relax with daddy instead of hanging with me.
Today the girls have their soccer skills day, then tomorrow we’re ending our week together with a bang – we’re going to do our first Color Run!! The girls are super excited, and have their outfits all picked out:
The girls even managed to get me the same outfit! I’m really looking forward to doing this 5k run with them, though I’m a little nervous about them getting T-I-R-E-D part way through. Does anyone have any tips they can share about doing an event of this length with kids?
All in all we’ve had a fantastic week, and I’m really sad that it’s over. I hope that I can manage to have a week of winter fun later this year.
