Hooray the Winter Olympics are here!!! The Winter Olympics always remind me of the trip hubby and I took to Las Vegas 12 years ago (back before we were married there). We went with another young couple during the Winter Olympics and had to nag several bars to put on the Olympics (in particular any Canada/US match up: Men's & Women's Curling & the Men's & Women's Hockey). In one small bar we taught the locals all the rules of “shuffleboard on ice” (curling). It was a fantastic trip!
Here we are 12 years later and the Winter Olympics is still my favourite thing to watch on TV. My favourite sport to watch is the women's hockey. That said, I find that the commercials can be as entertaining as the sports.
I'm sure you're all familiar with Proctor & Gamble Thank You Mom commercial that makes me cry every time I see it:
But there are other great commercials too, like the Canadian Tire We All Play For Canada commercial.
I cry every.single.time I see the mom tying her kid's skates. I wonder why?
The other commercial that I've been digging is the Sport Chek What It Takes commercials:
Obviously the commercials about the journey from child to Olympian are the ones that touch my heart. As a child-athlete and now a mom to 3 young athletes it's a journey I can appreciate (I'm typing this on my iPad while watching my middle daughter at her 3rd hockey practice this weekend!). It takes hours upon hours of practices, games & dry land training to become a world class athlete and I'm in awe of all the great athletes at the Olympics and their parents that have taken the journey.
Edit: thank you to Tamara for sharing this commercial with me, now I'm craving OREO cookies!
Although I don't know what Viasat is, this commercial featuring the song “Wake Me Up” by Aviici is pretty cool too:
Question: What is your favourite Olympic commercial?
PS – Thank you to all of my new SITS blogging friends for stopping by!
