Crunch crunch crunch…. What’s that under my feet?
Oh – those are leaves! Which means it’s FALL!
Fall is my absolute favorite season. I love the turn in weather, I love the changing leaves, and I love preparing to get back to school. My favorite festivity also happens in the fall: Thanksgiving! Though we try to balance the food we eat with fun fall fitness activities!
Here are a few fall family fitness ideas:
I took the girls for a fun nature walk through a forest that was right next to the park last weekend. While in the forest we jogged together – trail running is really fun and beautiful, especially at this time of the year, and then when we got tired of running, we walked around to find leaves. I challenged the girls to find four different kinds of leaves so that we could try and identify which trees they were from.
Brooke my middle daughter found four different colours of the same type of leaf – ooops – remind me to be more specific, and Sierra, my oldest understood, while Amber, my toddler preferred to just throw leaves at us.ook up on the computer/internet the kinds of trees their leaves were from.
After gathering leaves from our walk, we came back and looked up our leaves on the computer, and then did some crafts with them:
Play at the Park
The next day we decided to play at the park. Even though it was cold out, I encouraged the girls to keep moving – the more we moved, the warmer we got. Yes you read that right – the more WE moved, the warmer WE got. Hubby and I were playing too. In fact, we even got to the point where the girls were asking to take their jackets OFF!
While there we played some old-school games like tag and hide-and-go-seek, then the girls introduced me to their more “modern” versions of games, ie: toilet tag, where if you’re tagged you become a toilet and have to stay still until one of the other players “flushes” you. Let me tell you, there was lots of giggling over this game.
Take the Dog for a Walk
While we were at the park, we saw this family with their dog. The son was having a blast running around with the dog, throwing his ball etc.
