Happy Monday everyone!! Did any of you race this past weekend? Quite a few of my local running friends ran a half marathon on Sunday and unfortunately they got drenched in the rain. I feel really bad for them and I’m really really hoping that I don’t experience the same thing on my race day in exactly 4 weeks from now.
FOUR WEEKS FROM NOW?!?
Holy moly!!! Truthfully, as the weeks go by I’m becoming more and more confident that I can do this marathon thing. I was the most afraid of being able to fit in the training, especially the long runs. As I mentioned last week, I’ve taken it one workout at a time and getting every long run in, although admittedly they have been VERY slow.
Hubby also deserves an extra special mention here to because without him I couldn’t make it happen. He has been INCREDIBLY tolerant of me going to bed early in the living room on Friday nights so that I can wake up at 5:15 to go for a run at 6:00 am. He then has to get up with the kids, feed them breakfast and entertain them until I get home. This marathon thing has meant no sleeping in for him either. I am so thankful to him and for his support!
Here’s a glimpse into how this week’s training went:
Planned: Strength with coach
Actual: Box jumps, pistol squats, single leg lunge jumps, skater hops, pushups, closed grip pullups.
Planned: 8k before work
Actual: 8k on my lunch break
Planned: Strength with coach
Actual: Kettle bell swings (25lbs), goblet squats(25lbs), step back lunges with overhead weight plate (15lbs), squat jumps, horizontal squat jumps, around the world’s (25 lbs), skipping HIIT.
Planned: 10k tempo run
Actual: 8k tempo run on my lunch break. After work I went and visited Juliette who works at The Running Room to buy a pair of new running shoes from her. With 800 km on my Mizuno Wave Rider 17’s I needed a new pair…. badly!!
What did I buy?
A new pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 17’s of course!!
Actual: 5k at 5k race pace (25:16) – second fastest 5k ever!!! It wasn’t a race, but I just felt like trying out my new Mizuno Wave Rider 17’s – they’re awesome!!
Actual: 31k in 3:08:33 – I ran the first 15.5 k by myself way too fast. I then ran the second loop with my friend Juliette. I was DYING but she kept motivating me to keep going – thank you Juliette!
Last long run done! (Or so I thought…)
Actual: REST! I went and watched my oldest daughter’s début as a goalie in the next age group. She was fantastic!!
Going into my long run this week I thought it would be the LAST opportunity for me to go long on a weekend. Hockey season means our Saturday and Sunday mornings start with the girls on the ice sometimes as early as 6:15 am (average is 8:15 am). It takes a good 20 min or more to get all of their equipment on them (especially our big goalie) so we leave our house an hour before the games/practices. This year Sierra and Brooke are no longer on the same team, nor the same age group. Sometimes we’ll have a two hour break between games/practices to kill at the arena until the next girl goes on the ice. This year my hubby is coaching our middle daughter, Brooke. This means he has to be there extra early… Basically this all adds up to me having to get REALLY creative and flexible with when I get my runs in. One week it could be early Saturday morning, and other weekends it’ll be late Sunday afternoon.
I digress…. as it turns out this coming Saturday we don’t have ANY hockey!!! Which means I get to do ONE more long run before the marathon! Normally I wouldn’t advise people to run 20 miles four weekends in a row, but that’s just way this training cycle has ended up. I kept thinking that each long run was my last opportunity.
Which brings me to this week’s plans:
(Hubby planned our meals this week)
Monday: Sloppy joes with spinach salad.
Tuesday: Breakfast for dinner – veggie omelets, sausage and home fries
Wednesday: “Snacky dinner” – kielbasa, raw veggies, pitas and humus
Thursday: Fish and chips
Friday: Lasagna and caesar salad
Monday: Strength train with my coach
Tuesday: 8k run before work
Wednesday: Strength train with my coach
Thursday: 10k run before work – 2k warm up, 6k tempo, 2k cool down
Friday: Bodypump class
Sunday: Rest/watch the girls play hockey
Oh and I almost forgot – Brooke took this picture of me on Sunday to show you my awesome Hockey Mom shirt:
