This past week was super busy at work (again) and I only managed to be able to take 1 lunch break to run – that was on Tuesday. After missing my run on Friday I looked at our family calendar for this weekend, and my work calendar for this week and realized that there is only one way I’m going to find any time to run:
Yes folks, that really does say 5 am, and as many of you know, I’ve been struggling to become a morning runner for a long long long time. Sigh. I would rather be all cozy under my covers than running in this:
Why yes, it is -4C around here, and yes, the sunrise is at 7:35 am. Getting up early to run means running in both the cold and dark. Good thing I don’t mind winter running. But morning running? Now that’s a whole different story. That’s about as foreign to me as the dreadmill. I.am.not.a.morning.person.
But guess what???
I did it!!
I managed to get up not once, not twice, but three times in a row to run!!! This week I ran 8k on my lunch on Tuesday, then 7k early Saturday morning, and 5k even earlier on Sunday morning! And then, just to keep the momentum going, I ran today!!
Perhaps my 2014 goal of becoming a morning runner really is achievable?
So this week, all of my running training will happen in the cold, and the dark, under many layers of gear, and safety equipment (my reflective vest, headlamp, and blinking tail light that I bought for Ragnar this past spring).
Total this week: 20 km
5 week total: 102 km
Truthfully, I’m not sure what’s on this week’s schedule as the login to Training Peaks is saved in my work email. I’m sure I’ll run 3-4 times, and try to fit in some weights and/or kettlebell swings this week. Either way I’m sure it will be a far more successful week than the past few weeks now that I’ve stopped holding out hope for some of my meetings at work will be cancelled.
Training aside, last week was pretty fun – I went to Niagara Falls, NY on Wednesday night with 3 of my friends to do some deal hunting, and Christmas shopping. We stayed all day Thursday and shopped, shopped, shopped. Suffice it to say, we found a lot of deals, and finished all of our Christmas shopping!
Then, on the weekend, my in-laws came and spent two days with us and gave the girls their Christmas gifts:
New hockey bags and hockey gloves!!
I then cooked us up a nice home cooked meal (a roast, baby carrots, roast potatoes and broccoli with cheese sauce) . As you can tell from the picture there in the lower right, I slaved really hard in the kitchen all.day.long… (That’s my kind of cooking – throw the food in crock pot, sit down and enjoy some wine). All in all I had a pretty darn awesome week.
