Valentine’s Day card from my youngest daughter.
Happy Valentine’s Day and Family Day everyone!
Here in Ontario the third Monday of February is Family Day, a special day to spend together as a family. The town I live in does a fantastic job of hosting fun ACTIVE things for families to do together. You may remember that last year, the big girls went Skating with daddy while little Amber and I went to family Zumba.
The big girls were jealous that they missed the Zumba class so for the past YEAR I’ve been promising them that we’d do the the Zumba together on Family Day…
This year the Family Zumba sucked! It was not the least bit kid- friendly. Boo! My oldest was so disappointed that she Started crying. l’m normally good at giving people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case it was obvious that this instructor was not trying to appeal to the kids. She gave very little instruction and did not play a single “kid” song – No hamster dance! End Rant.
The rest of our weekend was Amazing! The girls didn’t have any hockey So we were able to go sledding several times, had friends over, went shopping and played LOTS of board games. I didn’t get any running in but that ‘s ok -this weekend was about being a Family.
Training-wise, my week was a success despite some wardrobe issues…
Monday was a warmer day then it’s been lately, so I ran 5k outside at lunch. When I was half-way through getting changed into my running gear I realised that I had left my running jacket at home – I had two choices:
- Either skip my run, or
- Run anyways.
So I sucked it up and ran anyways. Did l mention that it was -8c? Needless to say I ran as fast as my cold legs could take me.
On Tuesday I was MUCH smarter and dressed appropriately for the weather. Wow what a difference it makes mentally when dressed right for the weather! My 8K run was A lot more enjoyable than Monday’s run was.
On Wednesday night I went to the local LA Fitness (where I’m currently enjoying a free 2 week pass) with my friend Juliette to lift some weights. We through a full body circuit twice, alternating upper and lower body exercises. Man was I ever sore the next day- further proof that its time to quit body pump and do something more challenging.
Thursday was my lunch time spinning class, but unfortunately I needed to make it back to work for a 1pm meeting so I only got to spin 30 min.
Friday was another running day. Unfortunately I forgot my winter running tights… But at least I had a pair of Capri’s in my bag:
Someone told me that I looked like the Steve Urkel of running. Did I do that?
All in all I saved what could have been a disastrous week by running even though I didn’t quite have the right gear.
