The other day (why do all of my posts start with me saying that? Doesn’t anything ever happen TODAY?), I digress… The other day I was invited to an event on Facebook: The Runner’s World 2013 Holiday Running Streak. Curious, I clicked the magical “Join” link and for the past two days I’ve been trying to figure out whether or not I should streak.
When I run often I get injured. I’ve battled many many many injuries in my time: peroneal tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, and IT Band friction syndrome. ALL of those were over-use injuries resulting from too much running. It’s gotten to the point that I’m afraid of running more than 2-3 days in a row. I add in extra cardio with cross-training, specifically spinning classes. Basically even considering a run streak for me is a crazy thought.
I don’t have to run 3 miles or more (which is my typical run distance). The rules say I only have to run 1 mile for it to be considered a streak. Surely I can fit in 10 min in my day to sneak out for a 1 mile run, right?
Technically I’m already 3 days into a streak. I ran 5k on Tuesday, then yesterday I ran 7k:
Then today I ran 6k:
Then to add fuel to my fire – I read this article about Michael Scott on Runner’s World. Mr.Scott started a run streak in 2011 when Runner’s World held their annual Holiday Run Streak. That was 728 days ago!! Michael says that instead of taking complete rest days, he runs for 1 mile, then rests.
Hmmmmmm…. Active 1 mile rest days?!? I think I can do that….
Oh what the H—… I’m a joiner and I’m going to give it a try – sorry coach Scott, 28 days of running, here I come!!
