Happy Monday everyone!
After a good training week last week, this week turned out to be a bit of a recovery week, and the kickstart to a 4 week crash triathlon training cycle. A week ago I decided to add the Iron Girl triathlon to my race schedule. You see I have this disease that causes me to say “When and where?“, when someone mentions a race.
I started the week by recovering from last week Sunday’s trail race, threw in some swimming mid-week, and then ended the week with a fun camping trip with my daughters. Man, I love recovery weeks!
Monday: Went to the gym with the intentions of working out with my strength coach, but forgot my really muddy shoes at home. Unfortunately he couldn’t train me without my shoes (club rule), so I went in my socks to the stretching area and did a 20 min core workout, stretched and foam rolled.
Ahhhhhhh… sweet relief!!
Tuesday: My coach looked at my schedule and decided that we would swim and strength train in the pool twice a week for the next four weeks to kill two birds with one stone. Unfortunately he didn’t make it in to work due to a family situation, so I swam on my own. I swam as many laps as I could in 10 min (I have no idea how many I did), then alternated 4 laps of water running with 4 laps of swimming for another 20 min. I then ended by doing some arm strengthening with the pull bouys.
Wednesday: Pool workout with my strength coach. He timed how fast I could swim 400m so that we would have a baseline for improvement (9 minutes 20 sec), then he had my swim laps and do 20 press ups at the end of each lap for a total of 100 press ups. We also worked on my flutter kick and engaging my core when I swim.
Friday: Camping day with the kids! I got up early fully intending to run 20k but decided I had too much to do to prepare for our camping trip, so I just ran an easy 6k instead.
Sunday: Last day of camping which meant we had to pack up the camp site. This is pretty much my LEAST favourite part of camping because no matter how hard I try, fitting everything BACK into the van is much harder than picking it IN. Why is this?!? Lucky hubby wasn’t home when we got home because he went to the Molson Indy, so I wasn’t able to get my workout in.
Next week I’ll have to get back to some hard training to work off everything I ate this weekend. I think I’ll be running three times, swimming once, strength training twice, and going to a spinning class to prepare for Iron Girl.
Have a great week everyone!
