A few months ago I was contacted by Sarah Bowen Shea, a co-author of the book Run Like A Mother to ask me if I’d be interested in receiving a copy of her new book to review when it was released. I almost peed my pants when I opened that email because as an avid reader (and subscriber) to Runner’s World I recognized her name right away. Sarah, and co-author Dimity McDowell have both contributed articles to my favourite magazine so of course I jumped at the chance – the problem was I had to wait two LONG months until the book was released…. I "ran" to my mail box every day until FINALLY it arrived – it was well worth the wait because I haven’t been able to put it down!!
Run Like A Mother is not your average boring ol’ book on running (Sorry Hal Higdon) – it’s informative, sharing secrets about training techniques, iPod playlists, running gear and how to choose a proper shoe, but it’s also funny – peppered with humorous anecdotes from other running moms. Sarah and Dimity totally understand what it’s like to be a mom who also happens to enjoy running. Their advice is realistic, unlike the advice of other running books I’ve read that suggest 70 miles/week is what it takes to be a true runner.
