Happy Monday everyone!
Here in the province of Ontario, Canada, today is Family Day. Many businesses give their employees a day to spend with their families, so I almost forgot that today was Monday and almost forgot to share with you my MotivateMe Monday post. My husband and I have today off to spend with the girls. This is a relatively new holiday here so the girls barely remember a time before this holiday and they take it very seriously. “Mommy, we’re supposed to do things TOGETHER as a FAMILY!”, so today has been a fun day full of FAMILY time.
On Monday I went to a great BodyFlow class at GoodLife Fitness where I discovered that I’m slowly gaining flexibility – yay! I can now grab my back foot in whatever yoga pose this is called:
(Yes – I hide in my daughter’s room to write my blog posts, no one ever interrupts me in here 🙂 )
Admittedly, I’m not the most flexible person, but with some BodyFlow consistency it’s improving.
On Tuesday morning I went for a 6.25k run before work with Juliette and Becky. I’m really struggling with my running. They’re both faster than me, so I feel like I’m sprinting to keep up with them, and they’re happily chit chatting, while my lungs are hanging out. Not being able to keep up is mentally frustrating. I think I need to run more often to get my speed back, and I need a few runs by myself to help me get back to enjoying running again. Lately I’ve had such a HARD time motivating myself to get out of bed and run with the ladies when my alarm goes off in the morning.
After work Tuesday night my friends and I got together for another one of our MasterChef/Chopped nights. We bring mystery ingredients for Julie, who then attempts to cook us a delicious meal out of the stuff we bring her. This time our theme was Valentine’s Day (the last time I played the theme was St. Patrick’s Day). Here’s what we brought her:
(Mushrooms, strawberries, beets and chocolate)
(Brie, red peppers, lobster claws, steak and artichoke)
(Goldschlager, confetti cake, whipping cream and chocolate)
Apparently we like chocolate 🙂 Julie’s cooking is amazing (you can follow her blog: Fluudbloggler) and somehow she managed to whip together an amazing meal with the ingredients she was given:

Wednesday I went to bodypump during my lunch break. I seriously love bodypump and well, pretty much any fitness class I go to 🙂 I sure wish I could spend all day every day being active.
Thursday morning I ran 5.41k with Juliette in what felt like the North Pole. It was -13C outside with a windchill making it feel like -19C. brrrrrr! We were all bundled up and it was so DARK out.

On Friday morning I got up early and ran 7.74k with Juliette and Becky. Although it was cold out, it felt MUCH warmer than Thursday. It was -8C with a windchill making it feel like -14C. Later that day I cut out early from work to grab my oldest daughter out of school for her game in the Family Day Frenzy hockey tournament. My husband had already picked our middle daughter up early for her game. Both girls won their first games!
Saturday was another arena-filled hockey day. Both Sierra and Brooke’s teams played two more hockey games. Both teams won 1 and lost 1, meaning both teams would like go on to the semi-finals on Sunday and maybe even the finals. I also had to spend three hours volunteering at the sign in desk, so unfortunately there was no time for being active for me, I also needed a recovery day from the active week.
Sunday was an amazing hockey filled day. It started with Sierra’s team really coming together to play hard. They crushed their opponent and won their game 9-0. By winning, they advanced their team to the final gold medal game later in the day. Sierra, Amber and I then quickly left the arena to drive to another arena in another town to watch Brooke’s game. Her team was playing in the semifinals against the team they had a close lost to the day before. Her game was tied 1-1 after regulation play, then went on to a 5 minute overtime where they played 4 on 4. Unfortunately her team got a penalty and had to play 3 on 4 for the last two minutes. They managed to hold their opponent off from scoring so they were still tied. Unfortunately they ended up losing in a shoot out. Brooke was devastated that her team was knocked out of the tournament. We then hung around for two hours for Sierra’s gold medal game. Her team was on FIRE and beat the other team 6-0 to take home the gold!

Then today, Family Day Monday, I snuck out for a quick run before we went to a fun kids vs. the parents hockey game with Sierra’s hockey team.
All the siblings and parents got into the game, even wee little 5 year old Amber who showed NO FEAR at all fighting for the puck against the dads and the 10 year old girls!
Some of the dads put on wigs to try and trick the girls into passing to them 🙂
All in all I had a FUN and active week!
