Happy Monday everyone! Have you been as glued to the Boston Marathon today as I am? I have several friends running it, including my lovely MotivateME Monday co-host Rachel. She really needs our support today so let’s all wish her luck! (EDIT: She had an amazing day and finished in 4:41!)
As I track my friends with the Boston Marathon app on my phone, I’m now all inspired to try and qualify again, or at least to run another full marathon. Marathon Monday does that to me. I have tears of pride in my eyes as I track everyone– I’m so very proud of them!!
Now onto me and my training… I’ve been really seeing some huge performance gains of my own lately from training with my friends Juliette and Becky who are faster than me. We ran our last 9.43 mile training run at an average pace of 9:04/mile. Our first 5 miles were all well under 9 minutes/mile. I’m learning that I’m much more physically capable than my mind has me believing. There is no way I would have pushed myself to run that fast on my own, yet I was more than capable of it when I was running with my friends. Our Tuesday speedwork sessions are really helping too.
This week the weather was gorgeous so my training went well. I ran a total of 33km last week, plus I walked the kids to the park almost every single night! I ran on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I also went to spinning twice, and went swimming once. My bike unfortunately was not ready for me to pick up this weekend, so hopefully the bike shop will have it ready this week. I did two kettlebell workouts from DailyBurn this week as well. I really like being able to access new workouts whenever I can from the app – it’s VERY handy!
This week I’ll be shifting my usual training plan around a bit because I have THREE days off of work – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday! I’m taking time off to purge my house of all the broken things, stuff we just don’t use any more and to sort clothing. I’m pretty much sick of tripping over the old baby toys etc.
Monday: Swim & strength
Tuesday: Speedwork with the ladies before work 3 x 1 mile repeats + Spinning at lunch
Wednesday: Swim & Strength
Thursday: Last long run (18k) before Mississauga Half Marathon
Friday: Bike ride & strength
Saturday: Hoping to run the 5Peaks Terra Cotta Trail race with my 7 yr old daughter + yoga
Sunday: rest or bike ride?
