Happy Monday everyone! I know this is coming to you rather late on Monday, I’m sorry! This is because I took most of the weekend off from social media to spend some quality time with daughters.
Hubby was away all weekend at a hockey coaching clinic. He left Friday evening and returned on Sunday night leaving me to solo parent. As he left on Friday night I learned through facebook that one of my friends unexpectedly lost her daughter. I felt (and still feel) absolutely heartbroken for her and cannot stop thinking about her and her family. I shed quite a few tears for her as I cannot even begin to imagine the pain she feels. I’m ashamed to admit that up until Friday night I was feeling resentful at my husband for going to his coaching clinic and leaving me to handle a full weekend of skating lessons, hockey practices and birthday parties on my own. From that moment on I suddenly had a different perspective about my weekend so I embraced the alone time with my girls, and had a great time with them.
Friday night while Amber had skating lessons, Brooke played “Old Maid” with me in the arena mezzanine while Sierra went to public skating. Brooke and I had fun together and we decided that instead of me running around the arena track on Friday nights I should instead go out and get myself a pair of skates so that I can go to tehe public skating with the Sierra and Brooke while Amber is in her lessons. Then after skating the girls and I went out for a dinner and decided that once we got home we would snuggle up and introduce little Amber to the movie “Cars” as she has never seen it! Unfortunately Amber fell asleep cuddling with us 20 minutes into Cars, so I stayed there and let the other two stay up late to watch the whole movie with me.
Saturday morning we were out of the house at 7 am to bring Brooke to her 8 am hockey practice, then right after Sierra had her practice at the same arena. I brought my laptop and the hard drive so Amber and I could finish watching Cars together during the two hours of practices. After the hockey practices were done the four of us went to Indigo to pick out presents for the birthday parties the girls had been invited to. After shopping we headed home to have some lunch and began cleaning the house together for Amber’s birthday party that we were hosting on Sunday afternoon. After lunch I drove Sierra to her party, then Brooke, Amber and I worked together to continue tidying the house. Later on we picked Sierra up, and went to the grocery store together for food for games night at Juliette’s house. Once we got home from the grocery store we walked over to Juliette’s for dinner and games. We all had a lot of fun and stayed pretty late. Little Amber even fell asleep on Juliette’s chair, so I had to carry her home.
Sunday morning was a rare relaxing morning for us as there were no hockey games. We lazed around in our PJ’s and I cooked us all a big eggs and bacon breakfast. Later on we headed out to the store to buy food for Amber’s party. I loved how excited my two oldest daughters were about helping with picking out the food, decorating the house and putting together the loot bag goodies. We didn’t really have a theme for the party so we decided to do build-your-own pizzas. With 11 little girls coming to the party I knew this was going to be a challenge but I didn’t want to disappoint them so I decided to do the pizza making in 2 shifts, the 6 youngest girls sat together as the 1st shift and the 5 oldest girls were the 2nd shift.
Here’s some pics from the party:
My fitness this past week on the other hand was not great. I fit in one run, a couple of strength sessions and a ton of walking over the weekend with the house cleaning, and parties. I have to admit that I’m totally struggling in the fitness area right now. This week I hope to:
Monday: Swing around the ol’ kettlebell
Tuesday: Run at lunch – neither of my running buddies are available to run
Wednesday: Yoga with Brooke & Amber
Thursday: Run with Juliette before work
Friday: Skating with Sierra & Brooke
Saturday: Crazy busy day, so I’ll rest
Sunday: Spin on the indoor trainer + kettlebell strength
I’m finding that with no races on calendar in the near future my fitness choices are changing and I’m leaning more towards things I can do together with friends and the kids, which is probably not a bad thing, it’s just different than what I’m used to.
Have a great week everyone!
