I’m one of those people who is constantly dreaming – I’ve got a list of things I want to accomplish before I kick the bucket at least a mile long – though most of them are athletic pursuits: Complete a half marathon, complete a marathon, complete a triathlon, an Olympic Distance triathlon, half-Ironman distance triathlon, qualify for Boston etc… Some of them I’ve already scratched off of my list because I had the courage to pursue them, and others I’ve not had the courage to attempt (yet).
This summer/fall my dream is two-fold: I want to return to triathlon on September 1st and I want to attempt a sub 1:50 half marathon in October. There’s only one way to do this:
Work my ass off towards my dreams.
So I’ve put together a training plan that will hopefully help me to reach those two dreams. I know that running, running and more running gets me injured (look at what happened at Ragnar), so to reach my half marathon goal I need to cross-train.
Cross-training? Did someone say Cross-training?
Hmmmmm cross-training will also help me to reach that triathlon goal! So I’ve put together a pretty tough training plan consisting of: 2 swims, 2 cycles, 3 runs, and 3 strength training sessions. Four days a week I will do double workouts: a morning workout and one other workout later in the day, or a brick workout. For the strength program I’ll be doing full body, body weight exercises with a focus on my core and posterior chain (where I’m lacking strength and power).
I’m ready to pursue my dreams!
I’m ready to do this!! After my week off this past week (it wasn’t a complete week off, but I did take it easier than normal to allow my body to recover), I’m ready to put my body to the grind and work towards my goals over the next 14 weeks.
This week’s plan:
Monday: Lunch spinning class, and swimming after the kiddos go to bed
Tuesday: Pre-work morning run (5k), and full body strength workout at lunch
Thursday: Lunch spinning class, and swimming after the kiddos go to bed
Friday: Pre-work morning run (5k) and full body strength workout at lunch
Sunday: Long run (10k)
Are you a dreamer too?
Are you training for a goal race?
What’s on your training plan for this week?
