So I ‘m now back to work … Back to the land of waking up at the ass-crack of dawn, sitting in traffic, and rushing meals. With so much of my time now spent commuting to work, commuting home and working out during my lunch time, I have very little time left to cook meals. Gone is the time to hard boil an egg for breakfast, lovingly cook a big nutritious dinner etc … Most days I counter my lack of time with planning. I eat breakfast at home, pack a lunch and have a meal in mind that I can quickly prepare for the family when I get home.
Sometimes life gets in the way …
- Sometimes I sleep-in and don’t have enough time to make breakfast.
- Some nights I ‘m too tired or too caught up in social media to pack my lunch.
- Some times I just don’t FEEL like cooking.
Yesterday was one those days where I slept in AND didn ‘t have a lunch packed. I left the house empty handed food-wise.
Breakfast was a not-so-quick stop at McDonald’s where I bought a Bacon and Egg Bagel and a coffee:
I thought I was being smart by purchasing it a la carte (meaning I didn ‘t get the combo with the delicious, but terribly fattening and high in calories hashbrown). But 20 minutes later, yanno, after I inhaled the breakfast bagel, I remembered that I had fresh bananas on the counter at home that I could have eaten instead 😳
I used my lunch hour to go to BodyPump class then found myself in a rush afterwards to find fuel, so I headed to the cafeteria at work and grabbed some stuff that I could eat at my desk while I worked:
I had a smoked meat and cheese sandwich on multi-grain bread, a vanilla yogurt and a Diet Coke. The soda was a bad choice, because 45 min later I was craving the delicious cookies I had seen at the cafeteria checkout.
I ‘m discovering that it is possible to eat healthy meals on the run, and healthy doesn’t necessarily have to be eaten with a fork or a spoon, but in a pinch my brain falls out of my head and I make bad decisions, take yesterday’s breakfast as a perfect example. Since eating well on the run is newer to me, I’d love your help …
What’s your favourite on-the-run healthy foods?
