Last week I really enjoyed sharing with you a list of things that I’ve been loving lately – it really helped me to put life in perspective, and to appreciate the little things. I also enjoyed slowing down to take pictures of the things that have made me happy, which is why I’ve decided to continue on with that this week:
Thing I’m loving #1: Mountain Equipment Co-op’s $15 Race Series.
Yesterday I ran Race #2 in the Mountain Equipment Co-op’s $15 Race Series – a half marathon. I was shocked that here were only 39 participants (who were all very speedy) because I would have thought that there would be A LOT more cheap-o’s like me out there willing to run a race that didn’t have all the hoopla (ugly t-shirt, race expo, finisher’s medals etc). I guess I was wrong. That said, the race was AMAZING! It was very well-organized, I was able to park 25 meters from the finish line, there were indoor washrooms with NO LINE UPS!, several water stations (I think I counted 5), with Clif Bars, Nuun tabs, and bananas at the finish The course was beautiful, scenic and not full of angry drivers pissed off that a race was blocking their access to roads. This race was worth every single one of my 15 dollars. (Full race report coming later this week)
Thing I’m loving #2: Spending Time with Friends
Two weeks ago my best friend took me to the Toronto Blue Jays game (they won). We had a lot of fun catching up and spending time together. Then yesterday I recovered from the half marathon around another friend’s pool, while we chit-chatted about life, and future race plans (she’s also a runner). Then after the kids went to bed last night, another friend came over and we headed out to a patio to watch a live band and commiserate over beer and spinach-artichoke dip about parenthood. it’s like with the warmer weather all of my friends are coming out of hibernation. Remind me to invite them over more often through the winter.
Thing I’m loving #3: Family Time
Now that the weather is a lot nicer, we’ve been reducing our screen time, and leaving our phones at home to spend more time doing fun things – like going on bike rides to the park (remind me to get my bike tuned-up). having picnics, and decorating the neighbourhood with our chalk drawings:
All in all I’m learning to appreciate the people around me, and that life is much more enjoyable when you stop to enjoy the little things.
