Today’s topic for the Friday Five link up with Cynthia, Mar, and Courtney is dream vacations. While the weather here so far has been pretty mild, I’m always up for daydreaming about a vacation 🙂 I often joke with my husband that I was born in the wrong climate -I love beaches, sand, the feel of the hot sun on my skin and being surrounded by water. While boots sweaters and scarves can be cute, I lose my interest in them after about a month.
I’d trade this view:
For this one…
…in a heartbeat! Which is why most of my dream destination races are in much warmer climates 🙂
So without further ado, here’s my top 5 destination races:
- A Half Marathon in Hawaii
In January 2011, when Amber was only 10 weeks old, hubby and I left our two oldest daughters with my mother-in-law and went to Hawaii with baby Amber. Hubby had to be there for work to spend a few days doing a proof of concept demo to a potential client, so I tagged along. Usually when hubby travels for work I stay home, but there was no way was going to let an opportunity to go to Hawaii pass me by – besides the SuperBowl was there that year! I had an absolute blast and enjoyed jogging around Honolulu with Amber in the jogging stroller. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go back and run the Hapalua Half Marathon which goes past Ala Moana (where we stayed) through Waikiki to Diamond Head (volcano crater) and around the 475 acre park at Diamond Head.
- Rock n Roll Las Vegas
I love Vegas, and to run with my friend Elvis would be the bomb!
Need I say more?
- Boston Marathon
I’m not sure this will ever happen, nor am I even sure that this race is all that it’s cracked up to be (perhaps that’s just jealousy talking), but I really really wish I was fast enough/had the time to train/the dedication to train to qualify for this race. I kind of feel like a “fake” runner because I’ve never qualified even though I am well aware that’s not the least bit true. In fact in some ways I’m even more of a runner because it takes me twice as long to complete the distance as the winners 🙂 Anyways, it would be nice to experience this race just to experience the hoopla myself.
- Ironman Mont Tremblant 70.3
Yes, I had to throw in a triathlon. While I have absolutely NO DESIRE to do a full ironman, a half in Mont Tremblant sounds nice. I hear that it’s a beautiful course and after tackling the hills of IM 70.3 Muskoka I’m sure I can handle Tremblant.
- Le Marathon du Medoc
A marathon through wineries in France that combines wine, sport and fun? Yes please!!! I hear this one is really fun and quite beautiful too! I’m ready to take on the long-distance drinking challenge 🙂
