It’s been awhile since I linked up to Amanda for Thinking Out Loud but thought it would be fun to start participating again. I often get so caught up in sharing How-to posts or recipes etc, that I forget to share what’s REALLY going on with me personally other than what I share through my MotivateMe Monday posts (though admittedly even those are mostly focused on training and weekend recaps). Anyways, here are a few things that have been rolling around in my brain lately (sit back & enjoy the brain dump!).
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about…. Giving up “racing”
I’ve mentioned this a few times before, but my daughters are becoming quite the little athletes and are moving to higher levels of competition in their sports. Sierra is on the local rep softball team, and is practicing twice a week indoors. She also is playing house league hockey and is on the ice twice a week for that, going to one-on-one goalie coaching once a week, and is also going to try out for the “DS” hockey (development stream) which will have her on the ice another 2-3 times/week. Brooke, my middle daughter, is playing house league hockey, and is on the ice twice a week for that, and will also be on the “DS” hockey team(my husband is her house league and DS coach) which is another 2-3 times/week on the ice. Amber, my youngest, is taking swimming lessons once a week, skating lessons once a week, and is playing hockey once a week.
Summer is also shaping up to be just as busy. Did I tell you that my middle daughter was first overall in her softball league’s annual skills competition for her age group?
Brooke has already begun talking about playing house league AND trying out for select softball next year. Throw in Sierra’s rep softball, and Amber who wants to start playing T-ball, our summer is gonna be crazy!
Basically in between all of my chauffeuring duties to the kids sports there’s no time for me to race unless I can get races to start so early that I can be home by 7am, yeah like that’s gonna hppen. I suspect that the half marathon on Sunday may be my last for quite some time so I’m going to go out and enjoy it as much as I can. I’ll go early to socialize with the local runners I know, enjoy the course, savour the crowds, and enjoy the post-race bagels. Hopefully my future Sister-in-law will be at the finish line giving post-race massages like last year.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about…. How to keep up my motivation to be active if I’m not training for a race.
I’ve always gone from one training plan to the next, so running and strength training just for the sheer joy of it is completely new territory for me. Part of me is excited not to have that training pressure and is looking forward to trying many new fitness activities that didn’t fit into my training, and the other part of me is scared that I’ll slack off.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about…. Who reads my blog?
I can track stats and see that whenever I write a new post there’s approximately 50 awesome people read the post and on a really good post there are many more. So thank you for reading guys! But I’m also wondering… who are you? I’d love to follow you back either on your blogs, twitter, or facebook, so let me know in the comments how I can connect with YOU!
That’s about all that’s going on with me lately, what’s new with you?
