Today is the 28th day of the August Healthy Living / Fitness Blogger Writing Challenge, and today we’re talking about cardio vs strength.
Are you a cardio or a strength junkie?
Straight out of a university I was a strength junkie. I had a 3 day split routine that I did religiously for a year. Unfortunately I didn’t build as much bulk as I wanted because I struggled with eating enough protein and eating clean. As I’ve gotten older that part has gotten easier, but finding the time for lifting has gotten harder. Slowly I’ve gotten more and more involved in cardio and endurance sports, particularly running, because it’s something I can do where ever or whenever.
I’m now a cardio junkie. As I’ve changed jobs etc, running has always been something I’ve been able to fit in on my lunch break, except for at my last job, which is a HUGE part of why I left that job. I typically run 3x/week on my lunches, do 1 spinning class, a long run on the weekend and then 1 bodypump class for a little strength. I really wish that I had more time for strength, but I find that by the time I walk to the gym, and change, it’s practically time to walk back. With running, I can change, go for a 5-8k run, then change back and still have time to inhale a sandwich or tuna salad and an apple.
