The other night my friend told me that he had signed up for the Ironman Muskoka 70.3 Triathlon and that he’s trying to get a group of athletes together to do the race so that they could all rent a cottage together. The Muskoka area of Ontario in the summer is an absolutely gorgeous place, and this fits in perfectly with a discussion that I had with my husband while we were on a date this past summer. I want to do a Half Ironman distance triathlon for my 40th birthday. I turn 40 on July 10th and the race is on July 6th – Perfect timing!! A day to complete a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run sounds like the perfect birthday gift to me!
So there you have it folks – the cat is out of the proverbial bag. My training is about to take on a lot more swimming and cycling so that next summer this will be me:
Last week’s training:
Planned: Strength with coach and the Fab & Focused Buff Babes FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout.
Actual: I no longer have a strength coach, so I’m working out on my own – eeeek! I wasn’t sure what to do so I created an upper/lower body circuit routine – I did 10 reps of each exercise and repeated the circuit three times: 5 min warm up on the elliptical cross-trainer, goblet squats, chest press, step back lunges with weights, seated row, deadlifts, lateral arm raises, single leg calf-raises, lat pulldowns. I then did a core circuit: plank holds, hollow core holds, side planks and back extensions on the ball. Later that night I did the Fab & Focused Buff Babes FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout – it was interesting because I had 3 glasses of wine with dinner at a birthday party beforehand.
Planned: 5k before work and the I heart Tabatas FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout.
Actual: Started the o’dark thirty run club in Milton and convinced Jason and Juliette to join my run club. We all met at my house then headed out for our run together. We were all hurting from the birthday party the night before. Later that night I did the I heart Tabatas FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout.
Actual: My lower body was still very sore from Monday’s strength workout so I had to adjust things to an only upper body workout. As much as I criticised my coach for leaving my legs too sore to run the next day, I’m learning that it’s a really hard balance to strike, so I created an upper body/core circuit – I did 10 reps of each exercise and repeated the circuit three times: 5 min warm up on the elliptical cross-trainer, followed by plank holds, supine chest pullups, hollow core holds, seated rows, side planks, bicep curls, back extensions on the ball, pushups and hamstring bridges.
Planned: 5k tempo run with the o’dark thirty run club and the 2+2 Dangerous Duo FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout.
Actual: Juliette couldn’t make it so Jason and I started the 1.5k warmup run together. He bailed on the 5k tempo and ran another 3.5k on his own while I set off to run 5k at 5:15/km pace, followed by a 1.5k cool down. Later that night I did the 2+2 Dangerous Du FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout.
Planned: 8k easy run and the Dirty Thirty Boxing Babes FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout.
Actual: Rest – I’ve been battling a chest cold off and on since the beginning of October, so I rested to try to get myself healthy.
Planned: 14k long run and the Fab & Focused Cardio, Core & More FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout.
Actual: 14.38k o’dark thirty long run with Juliette. It felt AMAZEBALLS to get it done so I could relax and be a sloth for the rest of the weekend,
Planned: Total rest
Actual: REST… well mostly. I did 5 loads of laundry, completed a blog makeover for Relentless Forward Commotion, played (and lost) 3 games of Sophia the First Candyland, lost to a 4 yr old at UNO and waited quite patiently for my extremely low-calorie dinner to be cooked for me:
And here’s this week’s training plan:
Monday: Tabatas with a Twist FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout + swimming with my friend Laura
Tuesday: 2+2 Fierce Fighter Chick FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout + 5k early am run
Wednesday: BodyPump + 10k run
Thursday: Dirty Thirty – Perfect Plyos FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout + 8k run 3 x 1 mile @ 7:58/mile pace with 800m recovery jogs
Friday: Fab & Focused Buff Babes FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout
Saturday: 2+2 Dangerous Duo FIT CHICKS Fierce in 8 workout + 16k run
