Fatigue and exhaustion are the new normal. It is a symptom of our overloaded schedules. However, regaining your energy is simpler than you thought. We tend to blame fatigue on our busy lifestyles.
Reasons for Exhaustion
Sometimes fatigue is a result of being busy, but if you feel tired on a continual basis do not ignore it. Start by determining if these reasons for feeling tired apply to you. Here are the top five reasons for feeling tired:
- Diet and exercise – Excessive sugar and caffeine can increase fatigue as your blood sugar levels fluctuate. Prioritize a healthy, balanced diet of vegetables, fruits and lean protein. Use sugar-free caffeine products sparingly to supplement your energy. However, an underactive thyroid gland is common in women as you get older and can make you feel exhausted. If an exercise plan does not help, ask your doctor to check your thyroid levels.
- Disruptive sleep – Most of us do not get enough sleep. Restless leg syndrome contributes to poor sleep quality and constant interruptions in the REM cycle, leaving you drained throughout the day. Sleep apnea, commonly found in overweight, middle-aged men, is another condition that affects a good night’s sleep. Treatments are available for both conditions.

- Diabetes – Over a million people are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes annually. The fuel that keeps our bodies going is glucose, which is a form of sugar. Diabetics cannot properly use glucose, causing it to build up your blood. Without enough energy to keep the body running smoothly, one of the first warning signs is fatigue. Help is available.
