This is my Mamavation post for Monday, February 21, 2011.
How was your week last week? I hope that it was good. I had a very healthy and active week and I feel so accomplished! What a great feeling it is!
Truthfully, weight is not a goal for me – health is, so I haven’t weighed myself in quite a while. I’ve kicked my scale to the curb and I feel way better about myself as a result. It’s actually made being active and eating wholesome food easier, as I’m no longer looking at the scale to validate me or reward me for being “good”. The funny thing is, since ditching my scale I feel like I’ve lost weight ’cause my clothes feel looser, though I don’t know for sure.
As I said previously, I had a great week. Last Sunday I tried out the Nike Training Club iPhone App and absolutely loved it! No annoying talking! AND I get to choose which music I like! Finding a workout I enjoy doing at home has been a road full of trial and error for me. I tried P90X and The Shred – while they were challenging, I didn’t like the talking and the message about exercising to achieve a certain “look” that was being discussed in the videos (Jillian Michaels I’m pointing my finger at you…). Because I work out in front of my daughters, I don’t want them to think I do it to achieve a look. I’m a role-model for them, and I want them to know that I make the food choices that I do, and exercise because it’s fun, and it keeps me healthy.
As far as healthy eating is going, I’ve become less dependent on my sugary cereal in the morning. Instead, I’ve opted to have protein shakes each day, as well as adding more protein, fruits and veggies during the day. I also discovered a great CANADIAN (!!) product: Ocean’s Ready-to-Eat Dolphin-safe Tuna Salads. They are high in protein, and low in calories and fat! They also taste delicious! Nom! Nom! I tried 4 different kinds of these salads for my lunches this week. I also was cognizant of the number of fruit and veggie servings I had.
Here’s a summary of what I accomplished last week:
Monday: too sore to workout so I rested and recovered
Tuesday: Mommy/baby Bootcamp class
Wednesday: Nike Training Club “Worth the Weight” workout, took the kids sledding
Thursday: Mommy/baby Bootcamp class followed by a 4K run pushing Amber in the jogging stroller
Friday: Nike Training Club “Fit Zone” workout
Saturday: Rest/clean my house.
Sunday: Sick – rest
Next week I hope to keep rocking the nutrition and activity.
I’LL BE MODERATING #FITBLOG CHAT ON TUESDAY NIGHT!!! I’d love for you all to join in, as I lead a fantastic discussion on motivation!
Congrats to this week’s Sista of the Week: Rebecca @MomRuns26 from the blog “Rebecca Runs“. I really became a fan of Rebecca’s when I saw her countdown to the Flying Pig Half Marathon on her blog. She’s stepped out of her comfort zone and set a SMART goal for herself. I find that so inspiring! Great work Rebecca!

Question: What motivates you to get going and what keeps you going?
I think I’ve answered this throughout my post -being a healthy role-model for my kids, and fighting post-partum depression. Being active and eating good food has really helped me feel ALIVE!
Have a great week everyone!!
