If you’re new here, #MotivateME Monday is a weekly link-up co-hosted by myself and Run Mommy Run for accountability and encouragement. It’s a place for us to share goals, plans, successes and have each other to pick us up to keep moving forward.
Happy New Year everyone!!! I am so excited for 2017! I love the potential that a new year has – what will I accomplish this year? What races will I do? Where will the year take my family?
That said, I’m not really a resolution person, nor am I into creating a “new me”.

I am however, a planner. So this year I went out and bought myself a planner and set to work on creating a plan to help me be a more active version of myself in 2017. As I shared yesterday, last year my focus was on doing things with the family – I want that to continue while I make better use of my free time to be more active. Losing the
15 lbs 20 lbs I’ve gained since Ironman 70.3 Muskoka would also be nice bonus 🙂
It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been creative offline but did you know that I used to be quite the avid scrapbooker? When our oldest was a baby I created a couple of scrapbooks for her. Then daughter #2 came along and I just couldn’t find the time to scrap, so I turned more to blogging as my creative outlet. I’ve really missed the offline time though – there’s something so relaxing about cutting, pasting, and designing so when I came across the planners at Michaels I just couldn’t resist! I had intended to buy a “Happy Planner” and thought this was one of those but discovered when I was home (and had already begun decorating it) that it was actually a Michael’s Recollections® Creative Year Planner.
I love the page layout for the weekly view because it matches how I plan my fitness for the MotivateMe link up – it starts with Monday and ends on Sunday. The three sections for each day line up for my meal plan, cardio plan and strength plan. I decorated it with washi tape and the fitness Happy Planner stickers:
My goal this year is to be much much much more active than last year. I want to focus on moving more and making healthier food choices. I am not resolving to give up anything, or to change myself – I just want to be a MORE active version of my fabulous self.
And of course there’s that whole 20 lbs thing – that would be nice to lose 🙂 so I set up a page for that too:
So according to my planner, tomorrow is prep day – time to restock the fridge with healthy foods! I’ll run on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and the rest of the week will be for kettlebell and body weight strength training and yoga (man oh man do I ever need to get some range of motion back!!).
Today, I started the year off with a chilly, snowy 5k run, followed by some outdoor ice skating with the kids:
