How to format your recipes for rich snippets?
To format your recipes properly properly you can do one of two things:
- Use a plugin.
There are three plugins that I’ve found that can do this:
- RecipeSEO (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/recipeseo/),
- hRecipe (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/hrecipe/) or
- ZipList (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ziplist-recipe-plugin/) to format your recipes.I personally prefer ZipList because it also gives you a cute little “print” icon and users of the ZipList website can add your recipe to their recipe box!
- Use a recipe application.
Now if you aren’t using WordPress you can go to the Recipe SEO application (http://recipeseo.com/), enter your recipe, and it’ll spit out your recipe into the right format to copy& paste into your blog’s HTML editor. To make that recipe printable, you can also add the recipe to a Google Site and put a link to it in your blog post. Here’s a great post explaining how to create a printable recipe.
(Just some food for thought for the next time you publish a recipe on your blog).
